Bunch Coherence in Parametric X-ray Radiation

چکیده
The amplitude of Parametric X-ray radiation emitted coherently by a bunch of electrons crossing a crystal (CPXR) is calculated. When the bunch density is modulated with a longitudinal period close to the X-ray wavelenght, constructive many-electron interferences enhance the intensity by Nb × |F (K)| , where Nb is the number of electrons in the bunch, F (K) the bunch form factor and K a specified wave vector. CPXR can be used to test the microbunching in a X-ray free-electron laser.

Transverse Coherence P Roperties of the Lcls X-ray Beam∗
Self-amplifying spontaneous radiation free-electron lasers, such as the LCLS or the European X-FEL, rely on the incoherent, spontaneous radiation as the seed for the amplifying process. Though this method overcomes the need for an external seed source one drawback is the incoherence of the effective seed signal. The FEL process allows for a natural growth of the coherence because the radiation ...
متن کاملCoherent Synchrotron Radiation and Stability of a Short Bunch in a Compact Storage Ring
It should be possible to observe coherent synchrotron radiation at millimeter wavelengths in a compact electron storage ring, provided that the bunch can be made su ciently short. On the other hand, for a short bunch the radiation reaction is so strong that it could cause a longitudinal instability if the current exceeded some threshold. This might cause bunch lengthening, and cut o or reduce t...
متن کاملTwo-bunch self-seeding for narrow-bandwidth hard x-ray free-electron lasers∗
It is well known that seeding can be used to produce narrow-bandwidth and fully coherent x-ray freeelectron lasers (FELs). Self-seeding, which uses an extra undulator to generate the seed pulse, is perhaps one of the most promising methods to accomplish this. In the hard x-ray regime with high-energy electrons, this method requires a large magnetic chicane to match the path-length delay of the ...
متن کاملGeneration of Coherent X-Ray Radiation Through Modulation Compression
In this paper, we propose a scheme to generate tunable coherent X-ray radiation for future light source applications. This scheme uses an energy chirped electron beam, a laser modulator, a laser chirper and two bunch compressors to generate a prebunched kilo-Ampere current electron beam from a few tens Ampere electron beam out of a linac. The initial modulation energy wavelength can be compress...
متن کاملPresent Status of Quantum Radiation Sources on the Basis of the S-band Compact Electron Linac
Quantum radiations sources such as a laser Compton scattering (LCS) X-ray and coherent THz radiation sources have been developed on the basis of the S-band compact electron linac at AIST in Japan. The compact Xray source is required for biological, medical and industrial science because it has many benefits such as short pulse, quasi-monochromatic, energy tunability and good directivity. The X-...
